Global25 ancestry tools
These tools place you in a coordinate space built from thousands of modern and ancient reference populations, so you can see who you are closest to — and how a Roma signature differs from the surrounding populations.
Fits your coordinates as a mixture of reference populations and reports the closest single populations and the best combinations of two, four, eight and sixteen.
When to use it: To see which modern populations you resemble, and how a two-way mix (for example South Asian + European) models your ancestry.
Reading the result:
- The 1-population fit is the single closest population; higher-way fits mix several to reduce the distance.
- Distances are relative — lower is closer, but small differences are not meaningful.
- Oracle output is descriptive, not a formal admixture estimate. Use the Admixture/Ethnicity page for component percentages.
Paints a map of the world by how genetically similar you are to the sampled populations, with a heatmap colour scale.
When to use it: For a quick visual of where your ancestry sits geographically.
Plots you and the reference populations on a principal-components scatter plot.
When to use it: To see clusters and where you fall between them — useful for spotting a Roma position between South Asian and European clusters.
Summarises your nearest modern populations and the direction of your ancestry on a simple compass view.
When to use it: When you want a plain-language read on your closest populations.
Compares you against ancient DNA samples and maps the closest matches.
When to use it: For context on deep ancestry and historical migrations.
- Ancient samples are sparse and often low-coverage; treat close matches as suggestive rather than definitive.
A shareable one-page summary of your closest populations and regional affinity.
When to use it: When you want a simple overview or something to show family.
Draws a tree of reference populations (and you) based on genetic distance, so you can see how populations cluster together.
When to use it: To understand how the reference populations relate to one another around your position.
Shows your Eurogenes K36 component vector against reference country vectors as a similarity heatmap.
When to use it: When you want a component-level (rather than coordinate-level) comparison with specific countries.
The Second Parent Simulator estimates the coordinates a missing parent would have, given your coordinates and one known parent. The Grandparents Simulator goes a generation further.
When to use it: When one parent (or grandparent) is untested and you want to explore what their ancestry might have looked like.
- These are mathematical estimates, not reconstructions from DNA — use them for exploration only.
The Average Coordinates tool averages several coordinate sets (for example all members of one family line); Compare Coordinates measures the distance between any two sets.
When to use it: To build a family-line average or to compare your coordinates with a reference or another kit.
Where the Romani match lives
The Romani route and community match are on the Admixture / Ethnicity page. The route breakdown estimates how much of your ancestry is consistent with a South Asian source versus the host populations along the Roma migration path (Balkans, Iberia and so on), and the community match ranks you against curated Roma reference samples.
Attribution: Eurogenes Global25 and the calculators are by Davidski; the coordinate regression method follows Nganasankhan / Allelocator; mtDNA uses PhyloTree Build 17 (van Oven). Simulated G25 is clearly labelled as not real G25.
